The changes in NHS structures and proposals under the Pharmacy in the Future paper, the Vision for Pharmacy document, Commissioning a Patient-led NHS and Practice Based Commissioning provide many challenges for pharmacists and pharmacy contractors. The agenda for the LPC is to turn these challenges into opportunities.
Community Pharmacy has significantly better access to patients than any other primary healthcare service. It is therefore natural, and logical, that new enhanced services are developed through this channel. The NHS pharmacy contract provides the framework for the provision of services through Community Pharmacy essential for the maintenance of income streams.
The formation of Local Pharmacy Groups has meant that local pharmacy contractors and their representatives have the means to liaise effectively with the LPC and PCTs to mutual benefit. The LPC and PSNC have developed many strategies for local pharmacy services. It falls to the LPC, through local pharmacy groups and hence pharmacy contractors, to apply these strategies to the benefit of primary care and patients.
The best tool for delivering the elements of the pharmacy contract and preparing for the monitoring visit is the PSNC Contract Workbook which is available to download by clicking here. |
