Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments

The regulations which introduce the requirement for PCTs to produce and publish Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments (PNA) came into force on Monday 24 May. To see The National Health Service (Pharmaceutical Services and Local Pharmaceutical Services) (Amendment) Regulations 2010 click here.

Every PCT must have a robust PNA in place by February 2011 and after April (assuming the regulations are in place), Market Entry for pharmacy contracts will be governed by the PNA.

More information is available on the PSNC website.

A short briefing on PNAs is provided below.

The PNAs are being developed in collaboration with many stakeholders, particularly the LPC, and as they are released, copies will be sent to all pharmacy contractors and a number of other bodies for consultation.

Copies of the consultation drafts can be obtained from the following links:

The LPC encourages all pharmacy contractors and individual pharmacy team members working within Hampshire & IOW to respond to the consultation on their respective PCT's PNA.

All queries concerning this page and its content should be directed to Mike Holden.
