Regent Pharmacy in Shanklin was visited today by Sarah Stringer, Health Improvement Manager from the IOW Public Health Department for the final site visit and assessment needed for accreditation as the Isle of Wight’s first Healthy Living Pharmacy.

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) have published the draft standards for pharmacy premises and will be consulting until 7 May 2012. The consultation brings together the registration requirements, the standards and the GPhC’s proposed approach to compliance and enforcement.
The standards have been grouped into five overarching principles:

As part of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's push on the early detection of cancer in community pharmacy, they want to recruit community pharmacists across Great Britain to take part in a clinical audit on bowel cancer.
The audit can be used as one of your yearly audits, or as a pre-registration mandatory audit, in order to meet GPhC performance standards.

The Department of Health is launching the first national NHS campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer and the support of community pharmacy is needed to help make this campaign a success.
The campaign will run from 30 January to the end of March 2012.

How are we doing?
NHS Prescription Services records show that 2,557 or 23% of pharmacies in England claimed payments for the first month of the new NMS.
The data shows that 10,121 NMS interventions were claimed for in October 2011. The data also suggests that there were difficulties with NMS targets, as it appears many pharmacies completed interventions but were not paid, probably because they did not reach their allotted goals.
