Information Governance
Information Governance (IG) provides necessary safeguards for, and ensures appropriate use of patient and personal information. IG is not just about IT or a registration process, but like clinical governance, it is a way of working.
IG is compulsary for all NHS service providers including individual community pharmacies. The registration and baseline assessment had to be completed online at by March 31, 2010.
A new version (version 8 - www.igt.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk) of the toolkit was released on July 13, 2010 and there are a number of changes:
- System changes - it is now easier and includes a quickstart guide
- Requirement changes - there are fewer and some numbers have changed; the guidance has also been improved
PSNC, working with RPS and NHS Employers, have created a workbook to support the process; a copy has been sent to all pharmacies and can also be downloaded from the PSNC website.
